The Wider Community
Faith organisations are providing many essential services and volunteers in the heart of the community. Understanding this, many Strategic Partnerships have created a space for a faith representative. There are three district faith representatives on the Local Strategic Partnerships of North Devon &Torridge, East Devon and the Exeter Vision Partnership. There is also one on the Devon Strategic Partnership.
The North Devon & Torridge Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) Faith Representative is Marguerite Shapland. She is very happy to speak to groups about the work and would like to be contacted to give feedback about the issues dealt with on the LSP. Tel: 01271 814082 m.shapland07@btinternet.com
East Devon LSP's Faith Representative is Peter Brain. He is also vice-chair.Peter is currently carrying out a survey of the community involvement of faiths in this district. which is almost complete and which he is happen to send by email peter.brain@care4free.net The survey is an audit of how Faiths in the district (predonimantly Christian) are serving the community at large and was funded by the LSP.
The Revd Jonathan Meyrick is Faith representative on the Exeter Vision Partnership. He says -
I am a member of Exeter City's local Strategic Partnership by virtue of being Dean of Exeter. It gives me the opportunity of affirming the Church of England's (and the ecumenical Christian churches generally) commitment to the City of Exeter and the various communities which make it up. Like the district strategic partnerships, the Devon Strategic Partnership (DSP) comprises public, private, voluntary and community sector organisations. The organisations on the DSP all work together to improve the qulaity of life for those who live, work in and visit Devon; working towards a joint vision to be 'England's greenest county with strong local communities that are prosperous and welcoming with an excellent quality of life and a sustainable future.' http://www.devonsp.org.uk/
